Together We Can Resolve The Nutritional Paradox

Chris Langwallner at the Asian Venture Philantrophy Network conference on 27 June 2019

On June 27 June 2019, Chris Langwallner spoke about the Nutritional Paradox at the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network Conference 2019.

In his talk, Chris gave insights into the problems our food industry is currently facing and shared some interesting facts:

  • 77% of all arable land is used to produce livestock but only 17% of calories we eat globally are produced through that method, which is a highly inefficient way.
  • Every second, we lose 1 football field of primary forest because we are running out of land. That equals 600 square kilometres per day – the size of Singapore.
  • 2.3 billion people are overweight or obese globally – 6 of these people die per minute due to overeating. That makes about 8600 per day and over 3 million per year.
